Janique Bourget
With paper as her only medium, Janique Bourget creates sculpted relief drawings that unfold in space as if in zero gravity. Her patiently crafted frames play with volumes, solids and voids, to form a fantastic network of living, almost organic forms. It is this experimentation with matter, pushed to the extreme, that astonishes and moves: using matter where it is not expected, making it bend under one's intention. "My works are made of paper, a raw and diversified paper that I work in different forms. I am fascinated by the part of fragility that is supposed to be in it and the extent of its resources, sometimes unsuspected, that inhabit it," explains the artist.
For the exhibition Matière Primaires, Janique Bourget presents one of her emblematic works. Entitled Phoenix, this two-meter diameter paper sculpture unfolds like a living structure. A paper architecture, fluctuating and moving, this work draws its strength from its narrative and hypnotic dimension.
The artist also presents her latest work, created in collaboration with Alice Lebourg. Blown on the embers of Janique's paper sculptures, these glass works are formed from the disappearance of the original works, of which they retain the imprint. The beauty in Janique's work is thus revealed in this communion between strength and fragility, disappearance and reminiscence.
